There is a scary form of malicious software, or malware, out there now called “ransomware.” Like a virus or other piece of malware, it will infect your computer files, but this type of threat will not just crash or slow down your computer. This type of software will hold your files for ransom for a certain period of time.
“CryptoLocker” is an example of a type of "ransomware." The CryptoLocker trojan takes all of your files and password protects them offering to unlock them for a "ransom" (monetary fee) within a certain time. Forget your daughter, they are now stealing your valuable data and asking for money to give it back! It's important to have a secure anti-virus in place and updated virus definitions to avoid this type of problem.
